The little soap nubs provide more surface area, creating a more effective load. They also provide a non tangle application. The non tangle aspect really makes a difference for certain animal hair brushes. I could have easily poured this soap into a 5\" Diameter tin but the aim was to keep this puck small and easy to store...and that's when the nubs or \"fingers\" came to mind. If you were to smoosh them all down the diameter would easily extend well of 5\"...Surface Area.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAll that said, this design provides a slicker, faster way to clean your brush making it less of a production. Then reverse the direction counter clockwise. Load for 10-15 seconds. \u003cstrong\u003eStep 2- \u003c\/strong\u003eWith plastic comb work wide tooth side through the bristles gently. Never force through snarls and tangles. Rinse brush under warm running water while still combing gently. \u003cstrong\u003eStep 3 (optional) \u003c\/strong\u003eBefore final rinse whip up lather in a bowl or mug.
