My friends, I would like to introduce you to Droid Black, our latest fragrance in a long line of homages to the classics! If you have not already guessed or overheard, this is a tip of the hat to Floïd Black! A traditional wet shaving classic! That is to say, a recent classic, not one that spans decades and generations as other releases in this series have done in the past.
You see Floïd Black, now discontinued, had a short life that definitely coincides with the rise in popularity of traditional shaving over the last 15 years! This is both sad and kinda cool. I mean, after its release in Autumn of 2012 it rose in popularity within the various shaving forums of the time...and for good reason, it was good. Damn good.
Though I have been a long time fan of the scent myself, the real fella behind us releasing this legendary fragrance is none other than Christopher David Bailey. Yep, CDB struck again! Long before this frag was discontinued he'd been hounding us to make a matching shave soap! It would take it finally being cut from the Floïd line up for us to feel obligated to make his "small, achievable dream" a reality. [His words, not mine.]
In my research I noticed Floïd Black every now and then being compared to Creed Aventus. I mean, I guess I understand the comparison...but barely. It does share some similar characteristics but at the end of the day (especially during dry down), Floïd Black was/is its own scent and what a scent it is/was; Masculine, dark, floral, musky, talcy, futuristic nostalgia.
Unlike Floïd's other long running Spanish Barbershop classics dating back almost 80 years, Black was different. It had none of those classic barbershop trappings off the top. Which was kind of refreshing. Black is warmer and richer, something for the new generation of gents interested in returning to the traditional grooming practices of yore. Masculine, modern, and accessible as an accord but not in a cheap drugstore, pedestrian kinda way. I personally find Floïd Black to possess a rugged elegance that is quite unique in the world of traditional, low cost aftershaves; A balancing act often tough to truly pull off. I say this with confidence too after all the feedback and support we’ve received from the many, many sample vials we sent out to our customers this past spring and summer. You fine folks "Get It,” and we thank you. I also have to echo popular sentiment, why would they ever stop making this?
So, it is with great honor and humbleness we dedicate Droid Black to both you, our loyal customers, and the man behind this becoming a reality, Christopher David Bailey!
Now, The Deodorant
ABSOLUTELY ZERO PARABENS, PROPYLENE GLYCOL, ALCOHOL OR TRICLOSAN CAN BE FOUND IN OUR CREATIONS!
Not To Be Confused For Aluminum:
To be clear, my deodorant does not contain the bad stuff; aluminum chlorohydrate, aluminum chloride, aluminum hydroxybromide or aluminum zirconium—all forms of aluminum commonly used in antiperspirants and deodorants. To stop the flow of sweat to your skin’s surface, the aluminum plugs sweat ducts in the top layer of your skin stopping the the natural flow of sweat to your skin’s surface.
The stuff in my Extra Sport Formula is very different, called alum. The most common form is potassium alum, also known as potassium aluminum sulfate.
Potassium alum is a natural mineral salt made up of molecules that are too large to be absorbed by your skin.
If you are already a fan of our many Bay Rum creations then you know to expect something smooth, refined, distinctive and just different. The goal was to stay within the Bay Rum tradition but add our own spin on things and a page to the history.
Atomic Pumpkin, though playful and fun is no different in this approach. We take Bay Rum serious, but if we can't dance now and again, it's not our revolution...if you know what I mean? :)
Our Atomic Pumpkin Bay Rum is steeped in classic pumpkin pie spices for up to 6 weeks before the batch is complete; Allspice, Ginger, Cinnamon, and Nutmeg...minus the Clove! I felt rather than opt for a typical orange top note I'd Reach for Moro Blood Orange instead.
The 'Moro' is the most colorful of the blood oranges, with a deep red flesh and a rind with a bright red blush. It is from this rind that the hydrosol used in our splash is derived. The aroma is much more intense and present than a standard or bitter orange hydrosol. Very distinct with almost berry type notes.
I also chose to use Elemi Resin fastly becoming one of my favorite of the classic perfuming resinoids!
Elemi is an ancient resin dating back to the time of the Pharaohs, both spicy & peppery but contains even more pronounced woody-grassy facets. It really makes for a solid grounding element in what would typically be a spicy and flighty charge for your nose! Meaning, Elemi really reins in the typical hot heads of the blend.
