All three plates shave fantastic. This is one of the best performing razors out there. It will hang with any of the top tier razors out there.
My first shave was with the standard plate with 2 days of growth and The Vanguard instantly shot into my top 5 razors. There is blade feel but it’s very smooth and perfect in my opinion for 2 days growth. My next shave again was with 2 days growth this time with the plus plate. I was expecting this to be a lot more aggressive but it’s not, it is more aggressive but it’s super smooth and gave me a very comfortable bbs. The mild plate surprised me the most, again I shaved with 2 days of growth and I’m not usually a fan of mild razors but the mild plate on The Vanguard gave me one of the best shaves I’ve had in a long time (not that I’ve had bad shaves but this was outstanding). It’s super comfortable and grippy to hold even with wet hands. After 3 shaves, one with each plate The Vanguard is in my top 3 with the order changing each day lol. If you’re thinking of getting The Vanguard I highly recommend the 3 base plates.

Wow, what a razor! Have the mild and standard plates. Have stuck with mild so far as the shaves have been perfect. Will get around to giving the standard plate a run but have enjoyed the mild plate too much to mess with it. Really nice looking with great build quality. Service was excellent.
I was lucky enough to be able to purchase the holistic Vanguard set. My first shave was with the standard plate, with a Nacet blade. Holy crap, this razor is super efficient! In fact, the standard plate was so efficient, I couldn’t believe there was a plus plate as well! Anyway, I used the plus plate on my second shave with the vanguard, and it shaved just as well, with no extra discernible blade feel.
This is definitely one of those razors in which you don’t have to apply one iota of pressure, and this thing will mow down days of growth with ease. I m really happy I got one of these, and it’s already in my top 3 razors.
