Scheermonnik | Artisan Spotlight

My name is Henri van Gool. I have experienced good shaving products at a store Manandshaving.nl. More like a hobby I got involved in honing and sharpening of straight razors and got enthusiastic for starting a business of my own.  Until a few years ago there was no artisanal soap production company in the Netherlands.  All nice shaving soaps available were produced by companies abroad.

At one point, a start-up and hobbyist, Scheermonnik entered the market place. Very nice smelling handcrafted soaps, from the city of Delft. The church of Delft is still included in the logo. The founder decided after a few years, to look for someone who wanted to continue the business. I took this opportunity In the beginning I focused on internalizing the recipe and the production process. Most of the dealers were happy to be informed that the brand and the soaps were continued. For me personally, it is very satisfying to make a nice scented batch of soap every time.

My dream is to offer the customer a full classical shaving experience. So the line will be extended with shaving balm and after shave. For the hardware I am working on shaving brushes. Sustainability and health are import issues for me. F.e. the shaving brush handles will be locally handcrafted made from inland wood.
